This song has been in the back of my mind for sometime and arises from the frustrations involved in live sound production. The Sound On Sound Forum Album is probably the only medium where it could see the light of day!
I was thrilled Chris Timson (aka Concertina Chap) could join me for an intercontinental collaboration in the English Trad verse - he is a scholar and gentleman - and very brave indeed!
Technical: Bob’s vocals Microtech Geffel UMT 70 S, Chris’s vocals Neumann TLM193 and the Taylor 312e guitar a pair of AEA N8s. Recorded in Logic with UAD Apollo interfaces. A light sprinkling of
UAD Teletronix LA2A, Fairchild 670, Pultec EQ and Lexicon 224 was utilised in defiance of the sentiments of the song.
The attenuation waltz is quiet,
It’s a soundman’s dream come true.
The attenuation waltz is quiet,
It’s the thing that makes me un-blue.
Reverberation is just exploitation,
It’s aural masterbation to gain acclamation,
I get pissed off with delay (pissed off, pissed off, pissed off),
I think it gets in the way (pissed off, pissed off, pissed off).
When using compression there’s no life at all,
I might as well sing like a bloody big bore.
You can mute………..and unmute………..
And play with the faders all day.
When English Trad singers they take to the floor,
You don’t need to mic them as they bellow and roar,
They sing songs of pathos, strong cider and beer,
Of maidenheads lost and wassailing cheer.
The audience are rioting they say it’s sounds gross,
Apart for the bastards who are deaf as a post,
If one more twit tells me it’s too loud or harsh,
I’ll shove this C1000 right up in their …… nose.
My SPLs are rising, I’m right on the edge,
When feedback kicks in……… I jump off the ledge,
My polar patterns are tightening, my resistance is low,
My self-noise is rising, it’s going to blow.
