This was first inspired by a section of vocals from Bohemian Rhapsody in March 2008.

At one point there was a charity interested in using it for their advertising campaign. For a long time it was basically a loop with the strings. My friend Dominic Murphy RIP progressed it a lot in one session- the percussion, guitar and a lot of the structure was his idea.

After his death I could not face even listening to the track, so it sat on the computer for a few years. When I finally went back to it I was pleasantly surprised that it was finished!

For the SOS release I redid the vocals. This was really interesting to get them exactly right, the Cm7 chord has 7 notes plus a little melodic part in the middle range which gives it dynamics. I don't have Freddie's stupendous vocal quality but it was amazing to explore the detail of what he did.

For me, Open your Eyes is more about the courage to change what must be altered, serenity to accept what cannot be helped, and the insight to know the one from the other (Niebuhr)but everyone has their own interpretation.
