This is an interesting track for me. I originally composed the main theme as a piano introduction for Omnia on the first SOS Album, but I always felt that I should have developed it and made it the central musical idea. So here I wrote an introduction, following a four note Motif which is respectfully referencing the Ukrainian national anthem and developed the piano progression.

The developing of the theme for me felt hopeful, taking a musical idea and letting it blossom not being afraid to change an initial position and more truly realise what I was feeling when I originally started that Am/Dm7 development. Hope is an encapsulation of how I felt then and its a powerful feeling for sure, one that I hope still has a wider audience in these troubled times.

I recorded this in Logic Pro, interestingly the guitars are virtual - I replaced my draft real guitar sections because I was unhappy with the sound I was getting from my room. So they were played on a real guitar (after many takes!) and then I transcribed them to piano and virtual instruments.

The Piano is from the Korg Kronos (my favourite piano sound - a Berlin model I think) and played live.

I’m not an engineer so the mixing and the mastering are broad brush but I hope they allow the music to blossom as I intended.
